What We Do

Your Tax Return Prepared, Checked, and Filed

A self-assessment tax return reports your total income to HMRC and calculates the tax you owe. It covers employment, self-employment, dividends, rental income, capital gains, and any other taxable income. ABM Chartered Accountants prepares your return accurately, claims every relief you are entitled to, and files it with HMRC before the deadline.

Our ICAEW and ACCA qualified accountants gather your income and expense records, calculate your tax liability across all sources, apply the correct personal allowances and reliefs, complete the return with all supplementary pages required, and submit it online to HMRC on your behalf.

What Our Self-Assessment Tax Service Covers

From preparing your return to filing it with HMRC, here is how ABM Chartered Accountants makes sure your self-assessment is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.

Tax Return Preparation

Gathering your income, expenses, and reliefs to prepare an accurate self-assessment return.

Income Tax Calculation

Calculating your income tax liability across employment, self-employment, dividends, and more.

Allowable Expense Claims

Identifying and claiming every legitimate expense to reduce your taxable income and your bill.

Capital Gains Reporting

Reporting gains from property, shares, or other assets and applying all available reliefs.

Rental Income Returns

Preparing the property pages of your return with correct income, expenses, and capital claims.

HMRC Submission & Payment

Filing your return online with HMRC before the deadline and advising on payment dates due.

Why It Matters

Pay What You Owe and Not a Penny More

Many taxpayers overpay simply because they miss legitimate expense claims, overlook available reliefs, or calculate their liability incorrectly. Others underpay without realising it, which leads to penalties and interest from HMRC. ABM Chartered Accountants gets it right first time, ensuring your return is accurate and your tax position is optimised within the rules.

Filing late costs money. The penalty for missing the 31 January deadline is 100 pounds immediately, with further daily penalties and interest after three months. We file your return early, well before the deadline, so you know what you owe in advance and can plan your payments accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to the self-assessment questions we hear most often. Contact our team for tailored guidance.

Do I need to file a self-assessment tax return?

You need to file a self-assessment return if you are self-employed, a company director, a landlord with rental income, a higher-rate taxpayer with untaxed savings income, or if you earned more than 150,000 pounds in the tax year. HMRC may also require one in other circumstances.

The deadline for filing an online self-assessment tax return is 31 January following the end of the tax year. For the 2025/26 tax year, the deadline is 31 January 2027. ABM Chartered Accountants files your return well before the deadline to avoid any last-minute risk.

The expenses you can claim depend on your income source. Self-employed individuals can claim business costs such as materials, travel, insurance, and professional fees. Landlords can claim property costs such as repairs, agent fees, and mortgage interest at the basic rate. We identify every claim you are entitled to.

If you miss the 31 January deadline, HMRC charges an automatic 100-pound penalty even if you owe no tax. After three months, daily penalties of 10 pounds apply for up to 90 days. After six and twelve months, further penalties are charged. Interest also accrues on unpaid tax.

Yes. From April 2026, self-employed individuals and landlords with income above 50,000 pounds must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC. The threshold drops to 30,000 pounds from April 2027. ABM Chartered Accountants helps you prepare for these changes in advance.

Fees depend on the complexity of your tax affairs and the number of income sources involved. A straightforward return for a single income source costs less than one with rental property, capital gains, and foreign income. We offer fixed-fee pricing. Contact ABM Chartered Accountants for a quote.
